Dorothy Schmidlin-Wilson
ANIMAL BREEDING ASSOCIATE - (MSc, BanSci)
With a Bachelor of Animal Science and a Master of Science in dairy cattle genetics, Dorothy brings specialist knowledge in animal breeding, quantitative genetics and data analysis to her role as Animal Breeding Associate.
Her interest in genetics grew from a lifelong love of animals and developed through her studies, where she became fascinated by the role genetics can play in improving livestock performance. Her Master’s research involved analysing large genomic and phenotypic datasets to support genetic evaluation in New Zealand dairy cattle.
At Focus Genetics, Dorothy applies that expertise across livestock breeding programmes, using data and genetics to support practical improvements in performance and sustainability. She’s particularly motivated by the opportunity to help solve real-world farming challenges through better breeding decisions.
